Sea Salps

We have been studying sea salps as there have been lots of them in the sea this summer and they were at Little Kaiteriteri where we hope to go snorkelling. We have been learning to write information reports and have written paragraphs about sea salps classisifcation, appearance, diet, behavior, and habitat.

Fern- Sea Salp Classification
Sea Salp are little critters that propel through the ocean water. They are a type of vertebrate that goes through different stages. They are related to humans.

Mason- Sea Salp Appearance
Sea Salp are translucent creatures and they look like a gelatinous diamond necklace. One salp can be 4 inches long but their chain can be two times as long as a human body. Even though they look like jellyfish, they are not.

Sam- Sea Salp Diet and Behaviour
Sea Salp have a diet of plankton. Planton are small plants and animals that drift around the sea. Sea Salp eat them as their food. Sea Salp have a heart and gills. They pump their way through the sea filtering the water.

Eilidh- Sea Salp Habitat

Sea Salp live in the ocean. They live by themselves. Some of them stay together like a family or a community. You find sea salps in the Southern Ocean near Antarctica. Sea Salps are amazing creatures.
